Amazon is experimenting with re-directing search queries to brands’ webshops outside of its own app. In the U.S., some Amazon customers have been presented with options to visit external online shops if they searched for products which Amazon itself doesn’t sell. The beta test seems to be directly connected to Amazon’s “Buy with Prime” initiative through which brands can integrate Prime shipping options and payment through Amazon directly into their own webshop. AboutAmazon

Amazon opened its first brick-and-mortal pharmacy and beauty store in Milan, Italy. Located right in the city centre, the store offers products from brands such as Eucerin, Vichy, Bionike, Avéne and more. AboutAmazon

The EU parliament has green-lit an update for the VAT rules which directly affects online marketplaces. By 2030, online platforms must pay VAT for services provided through them when the individual sellers present on the marketplace do not charge VAT. Eurparl

MediaMarktSaturn plans to increase the Space-as-a-Service concept which enables wholesale and marketplace retail partners to rent space in the brick and mortal store of the retail chain to present their products. Dutch online marketplace bol has closed a good year. Sales increased by 4.1 percent to a GMV of 5.9 billion Euros in 2024. The main share of this turnover goes to bol itself – the platforms own retail business accounts for 3.1 billion euros (+ 8.7 percent). After more and more signs emerged in the past few days that the French sports marketplace Colizey had ceased trading, official confirmation has now been received from Colizey. Despite all efforts, it was not possible to ensure the future viability of the company. In particular, the selective distribution strategies of sporting goods manufacturers, who had banned their dealers from selling on marketplaces, had made life difficult for Colizey. LinkedIn
